4 years ago, I decided to go to a different college as all of my high school friends and I have to admit that I was a little worried about how and if I was going to make any new friends. I naturally assumed I would be the only new college student there who didn’t know a soul. I want to share with you some really important information you should know beforehand which hopefully keeps you from freaking out too much in the beginning.
Remember Most Freshmen Enter College Friendless—Sure, some people you meet will say they’ve already met a friend or two, and it could very well be one they’ve known since high school, but I guarantee, the majority of freshman college students are entering into their college experience without friends. That just means that most of the people you’re going to meet are in the same boat you are in. You’ll be much more eager to interact with others, even if you’re the shy type, if you know that most of the other freshmen you meet either in your dorm, classes or activities are looking for new friendships as well.
Get Involved—The very best way to meet new friends is to get involved. This means not just going to class, but joining clubs or organizations that interest you. Find something you truly enjoy and I guarantee you’ll make new friends. But first, you’ve got to leave your dorm room in order for this to take place. So get off your computer and make it happen!
Get Involved but Not Too Involved—If you are constantly involved in lots of activities like organizations, study groups or clubs, don’t be surprised if you haven’t found the closer type of friendships that you desire. Getting to know someone and building a new friendship takes time, so don’t spread yourself too thin or you’ll end up with lots of acquaintances but few true friendships.
解析
【答案】interact with others
【解析】根据题干关键词 “freshman, new friends, you’ll be more eager to” 定位到的第二段最后一句 “You’ll be much more eager to interact with others, even if you’re the shy type, if you know that most of the other freshmen you meet either in your dorm, classes or activities are looking for new friendships as well.” 可知,如果你知道在宿舍、班级或活动中遇到的大多数新生也在寻找新的朋友,那么即使你是害羞型的,你也会更渴望与他人互动。故本题答案为to interact with others。
